Creating a Media Kit

Creating a media kit was something that I had put on the back burner for a while. The reason for this, was that I made the decision to spend a year redesigning and re-positioning my blog into the bicycle touring niche. As such, it seemed pointless to create a media kit until that process was completed. Once the direction of my travel blog was firmly set though, the time seemed right to start working on the kit.

What is a Media Kit?

So, what is a media kit you might ask. Basically, it is a way of showing potential partners and sponsors what I am about, and how we might work together. By providing details such as the amount of visitors I get to my site, my Twitter followers and Facebook reach, it gives companies a good idea of who my audience are. The reason for this, is that it makes far more sense for a company or business to advertise directly to a targeted niche. This way, there is likely to be far greater response to their products and services.

What I Hope to Achieve by Creating a Media Kit

There are a few things that I wish to achieve by creating a media kit. Firstly, I really hope that it gives me the chance to work with some interesting companies in order to test out new gear and equipment. Not only would this give me the opportunity to evaluate gear and pass my thoughts onto people who might be buying it, but the companies themselves may listen to my feedback and use it in newer products. Secondly, it might provide some form of income from sponsorship and the like, which would help to keep this blog going, and also help fund my trips around the world. Additionally, as I will be attending a few travel conventions and shows over the next months, having a media kit ready to hand might prove beneficial.

Where is This Media Kit Then?

When creating the media kit, I decided that it would be in a PDF form, so it is downloadable. If you are interested in having a look at it, you can download the Daves Travel Pages media kit here. I will also print a few copies out, and hand them over with my business cards when I am at travel shows and conventions. I really want to put the word out about the blog and my cycling trip around the world during the build up period before leaving in May 2015. I feel I have as much to offer companies and brands as they might offer me in return, and it will be interesting to see how this develops. Certainly, there are some travel bloggers supporting entire lifestyles like this. Whilst this is not my aim, a happy medium would be nice.

And so, that is why I have spent a little time creating a media kit. If you are thinking of working with Daves Travel Pages, or know someone that might want to, then please get in touch. The link to the media kit has already been included, but you might also be interested in looking at this page which covers various ways that I can work with people in partnerships.
